PLANTING
If purchasing color pack and/or 4" nursery plants, plant in late October,
November or December for late winter, early spring and early summer
blooming.
Delphiniums require full sun, but will tolerate filtered, late afternoon
light in hotter inland areas.
Plants need a rich, porous soil, so mix Roger's Planting Mix with the
recommended amount of Roger's Soil Activator at planting time. DO NOT
cover the crown of the root with soil!
WATERING
Water regularly. Slow, deep, INFREQUENT watering is best, however, water
twice a week while plants are young. Once established, you may only need
to water once a week during cool months - twice a week in warm months.
MAINTENANCE/GROOMING
Once the first shoots develop (late fall, early winter), begin feeding
your plants with Roger's Soil Activator every 2 weeks. Place tall stakes
next to the young plants and tie loosely for support as the plants grow.
Bait for snails and slugs.
AFTER BLOOM CARE
Cut back flower spikes only leaving as much foliage at the base of the
plant as possible. Once NEW shoots are several inches high, cut
remaining old stalks down. Continue feeding every 2 weeks with Roger's
Soil Activator to encourage more blooms for late summer and perhaps
early fall.
VARIETIES/ CULTIVARS
The tallest varieties are the Pacific strain. These are known as Pacific
Giant, Pacific Hybrids, and Pacific Coast Hybrids. They can reach 6 to 8
feet high and come in some of the following colors:
Pacific and Magic Fountain Delphiniums:
Astolate ........................ pink with dark bee
Black Knight .................. midnight violet
Blue Bird ....................... medium blue
Blue Jay ........................ medium to dark blue
Galahad ........................ clear white, white bee
Guinevere ..................... lavender pink, white bee
Percival ......................... white with black bee
Summer Skies ............... light blue
