Rose Pruning
|
1. Remove any dead canes or dead branches. Cut down to the crown, where they originate from.
2. Cut out any WEAK, THIN, or SPINDLY growth.
3. Stand back and look at the remaining canes. Evaluate their ability to produce strong, new growth.
4. Leave at least 3 or as many as 5 canes. On those canes, try to leave at least 3 buds.
5. Always cut above an OUTWARD facing bud. Make your cut
1/4 inch above the bud at a 45½
angle sloping downward, away from the bud.
6. Make sure any dead, old wood a the base of the rose (bud union) is
cut off _ you may have to use a pruning saw for a close, clean cut.
