Show Details
- The show is free and open to the general public for exhibiting. Members from the Orange County Rose Society will be at Roger’s at all times during the show to answer questions.
- This is a formally judged show, with Judges from The American Rose Society (ARS) adhering to the guidelines of the ARS. The judging is over by about 1PM.
- The public can also acquaint themselves with all the different classes of roses: Hybrid Teas, Floribundas, Shrubs, etc.
- We encourage questions of which roses will perform well in your micro climate, i.e. Coast vs. Away from the Coast and about growing roses, identification, problems and landscaping.
- All of the roses must be grown in someone's home garden, and not be bought at a florists.
- Vases are provided for all of the exhibits. (Some classes, exhibitors may use their own)
- The rules for exhibiting are very formal, and must be adhered to. The provided entry tag must be correctly filled out, with the correct name of the rose, spelled correctly; class, and name & address of the exhibitor.
- Beginning exhibitors should enter in the novice class, which is for people who have never won a trophy in an ARS show.

RULES FOR HORTICULTURAL EXHIBITS:
This show adheres to the rules of The American Rose Society in organizing a rose show. Anyone may exhibit roses in this show. All roses have been grown in the exhibitor’s outdoor garden. All exhibitors must register at the registration desk. Only ARS entry tags may be used, folded with only the upper portion of the entry tag completed. Use only black or blue ballpoint pens. No ink pens. Only one exhibitor or one team from any one garden may enter any class. Each variety constitutes a separate class within the section and will be judged on its merits for that variety. More than one entry of the same variety by an exhibitor in a class will disqualify all. The responsibility for proper identification and classification lies with the exhibitor. This is an alphabetically arranged show, except for Section A. Each variety will constitute a separate group within the class, and will be judged on its merits for that variety. Exhibitors must submit entries to the Placement Committee. Exhibitors must place entries for Challenge Classes, Class 9, Class 39 and Class 40. During judging, only individuals with specifically assigned jobs will be permitted in the show area. Inconspicuous wedging or support is permitted. Judges may penalize for distracting wedging.
AVOID DISQUALIFICATION. A rose entry is disqualified if it is misnamed, misclassed, mislabeled or misplaced. Stem on stem (except Old Garden Roses and Shrubs). Foreign substance on foliage, stem and/or bloom when used to enhance the beauty of the rose. Failure to disbud when required. Violation of ARS or local show rules. If an entry is disqualified, the judges will write the reason on the entry tag.
Neither the Orange County Rose Society or Roger’s Gardens accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal property.
Official publications for use in judging include: Modern Roses 11, American Rose Magazines, ARS Annuals, Handbook for Selecting Roses, 2004 Official List of Approved Exhibition Names for Judges and Exhibitors, Combined Rose List. Any discrepancy between the ARS publications and CRL, defer to ARS publication.
Trophies will be awarded on Saturday, October 23, 2005 at 2:00 pm. All winners should be present or should make specific arrangements for their trophy acceptance with the show chair or the trophy chair.
