Product Details

The Manzano Orange Pepper is a vibrant variety of the Capsicum pubescens species, known for its distinctive apple-like shape and thick, crisp walls. Native to the high-altitude Andean regions of South America, particularly Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, the plant grows as a hardy, perennial shrub reaching 2 to 6 feet tall—or even taller in ideal conditions—making it more cold-tolerant than most peppers. It features slightly hairy leaves and beautiful purple-blue flowers, with fruits that mature from green to a bright yellow-orange color. The pepper earns its name "Manzano," Spanish for apple, due to its round, golf ball-sized appearance.

Typically measuring 1 to 2 inches in diameter (about 3-5 cm), the Manzano Orange Pepper delivers a medium heat level of 12,000 to 30,000 Scoville Heat Units, roughly 2 to 12 times hotter than a jalapeño, with a sweet, fruity, and citrusy flavor profile. Its thick flesh makes it ideal for fresh uses like salsas, hot sauces, stuffing with meats or cheese, roasting, or adding bold spice to sauces and relishes, where the fruitiness balances the heat effectively.
