NATIVE MILKWEEDS FOR
MONARCH BUTTERFLIES
Milkweed is the exclusive foodplant of the Monarch butterfly. Native to most parts of California, these easy care, drought tolerant, herbaceous, perennial plants are a must-have in a wildlife or habitat garden. Our locally native Narrowleaf Milkweed sports clusters of creamy white to light pink flowers above thin stems whorled with long, pointed leaves. Tolerates a variety of soils including sandy, clay, and saline.
Native Milkweed should not be planted within one mile of the coast, where milkweeds did not naturally occur, or adjacent to Monarch overwintering sites.
