The California Native Plant Society is the leading organization dedicated to conserving California native plants and their natural habitats, while increasing the understanding, enjoyment, and horticultural use of native plants. The Orange County Chapter is quite active and conducts numerous activities, including an annual home garden tour, over a dozen local field trips, numerous outreach events, rare plant research and conservation, invasive plant science, and also funds numerous researches, educational and garden grants. Regular monthly general meetings, with speakers on a wide variety of native plant topics are especially popular. Roger’s Gardens staff are Directors of the organization and involved in all aspects of the organization.

Calscape is an amazing website and database from the CA Native Plant Society that gives you access to 150 years of knowledge about California native plants that are local to your area. Calscape provides information to help you restore nature and save water, one garden at a time. At the site you can enter your address or zip and quickly see the plants and picture of those that are locally native to that area. You can filter to just trees, shrubs, perennials, etc., filter by plant size, to those that support wildlife, by sun or shade and many other ways to curate a list just right for you.

Tree of Life Nursery is well known in the local native plant community. Located on 40 acres of the historic Rancho Mission Viejo, they have supplied over 500 locally native plant species and varieties. Focusing on land stewardship, they are dedicated to plants appropriate to this region of California. For forty years, Tree of Life Nursery has been an advocate for a California that looks like it should - an authentic California.

Moosa Creek Nursery

Moosa Creek Nursery is a wholesale only plant propagator and grower specializing in native plants of California, sustainable and wildlife friendly landscaping and socially responsible business. The nearly 400 species offered by Moosa Creek include everything from waterwise ground covers to native trees and decorative shrubs that attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife, and require little or no supplemental watering. These are the plants that are supposed to be here.

Roger’s Gardens staff are majot contributors to Calflora and are members of their Board of Directors.

By recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create research-quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. So, if you like recording your findings from the outdoors, or if you just like learning about life. iNaturalist is an excellent species identification system and observation occurrence tool. It can accurately identify most garden and wildlands plants and is essential to every nature lover.
