DESCRIPTION
Morus rubra 'Illinois Everbearing' (often labeled as Morus alba x rubra) is a popular hybrid mulberry prized for its exceptional fruit production. This vigorous, cold-hardy deciduous tree (USDA zones 5-9, down to -20°F) grows 15-30 feet tall but can be kept smaller with pruning. It produces large (1–1.5 inch), elongated, purple-black berries that resemble blackberries in appearance and flavor—sweet, aromatic, and juicy with a blackberry-raspberry taste. Notable for its long harvest season from early July through August or September, the nearly seedless fruit is excellent for fresh eating, jams, and baking. Self-fertile and highly productive, it makes an outstanding choice for home orchards and edible landscapes.
