Based in a tiny workshop in Battle Creek, Michigan, Jennifer Hepler Takens creates a menagerie of oddity and wonder under the name My Dearest Witch. Her characters are like threads; if you grasp lightly and follow them, they will take you to a place of wide-eyed frivolity. Jennie creates narrative sculptures, meant to kindle a childlike sentimentalism. Their stories are like magic spells taking you home. Jennie has worked as a professional maker for the past 12 years. She arrived at this work after making things and keeping shop with her grandmother for many years. It wasn’t long before a pull toward the macabre was quite evident. Jennie Hepler Takens is the curator for the magical Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween art show in Marshall, MI. Most years, she sells exclusively at Bewitching Peddlers of Halloween, but she is thrilled to offer a special collection at Roger’s Gardens. |
