Sylvr Sharp

Sylvr Sharp Sylvr began her creative career as a visual artist in the world of fashion specializing in window display and design. Having large public areas as her canvas, she experimented and taught herself any skill she needed to bring her visions to life. This mental “toolbox” of techniques is what fuels the mixed media pieces she creates.

Her influences from briefly living on the East Coast are revealed as elements of gothic architecture, gold gilding reminiscent of ancient cathedrals, rusty metal objects, peeling paint, and patinaed surfaces in her work. Religious icons and Spanish colonial art references come from her travels to Santa Fe and love of the Mexican celebration of the dead, a favorite theme of hers.

The shrines she produces combines all these influences into pieces that look ancient themselves. Layers of paint, plaster, clay, and found objects give the feeling of finding a treasure in an archeological dig. The addition of light brings these “shrines” to life and adds a touch of magic as it shines off gems and gold leaf details embedded in the clay.

Sylvr calls Huntington Beach home and is blessed to have her art studio a mile from the beach, her favorite place. For fun she loves photography and painting things on very large walls.
