How to get your product
The Dancy Tangerine is a multi-stemmed evergreen shrub with an upright spreading habit of growth, typically reaching about 10-15 feet tall and 8-12 feet wide at maturity (semi-dwarfs about 1/2 to 2/3 that size). It's one of the oldest known tangerine varieties, originating in Florida in 1867. It is popular with home gardeners for its tangy, easy-to-peel, "zipper-skin" fruit. It ripens in late fall to early winter, usually November to February in Southern California, though the fruit can deteriorate quickly if left on the tree too long. Dancy is self-fertile, but cross-pollination can increase fruit yield and quality. The fruit is small to medium-sized, with a deep reddish-orange rind that's thin and leathery, making it prone to damage and often requiring clipping at harvest. It has a rich and sprightly flavor, a good balance of sweetness and acidity, and usually contains a few seeds (6 to 20). Dancy has a tendency to be alternate bearing, and judicious pruning can help manage this. It's moderately cold-hardy, thriving in zones 8-11, but the thin-skinned fruit isn't. It's best in warm, temperate to subtropical climates and needs protection from frost.Ê
