Product Details

Catmint, commonly known as Nepeta, is a hardy perennial herb in the mint family (Lamiaceae), prized for its aromatic gray-green foliage and long-lasting spikes of tubular lavender-blue, purple, or pink flowers. Native to parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa, it forms neat, clumping mounds typically 1–3 feet tall and wide, with fuzzy, scalloped leaves that release a pleasant minty scent when brushed. Unlike invasive true mints, catmint spreads slowly and thrives in full sun with well-drained soil, proving highly drought-tolerant and low-maintenance once established.

Gardeners love catmint for its extended bloom period from spring through fall, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies while repelling deer, rabbits, and some pests such as aphids. Its leaves are edible with a mild mint flavor, and traditionally, catmint has been used medicinally in teas for calming effects, easing stress, digestive issues, or minor ailments—similar to but milder than its relative, catnip (Nepeta cataria). It's an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, or xeriscaping.
