How to get your product
Lavender 'Spanish Otto Quast' (Lavandula stoechas 'Otto Quast'), also called Otto Quast Spanish Lavender, is a compact, evergreen perennial shrub originating from Mediterranean regions and selected in California in the 1980s. This dense, bushy variety grows 18–30 inches tall and 24–36 inches wide, forming rounded mounds of aromatic, narrow, silvery-gray to gray-green foliage. It produces striking, pineapple-shaped flower spikes with tight clusters of small rich purple florets topped by large, petal-like purple bracts (sometimes bicolored with paler lavender "wings") for a whimsical, showy effect. Blooming heavily from mid-spring through summer (often year-round in mild climates), it's drought-tolerant, deer/rabbit-resistant, and thrives in full sun with well-drained soil, hardy in USDA Zones 7–9.
Primarily ornamental, 'Otto Quast' excels in Mediterranean, xeriscape, or coastal gardens as borders, low hedges, edging, rock gardens, mass plantings, or container accents, attracting bees and butterflies while adding fragrance and color. The fragrant foliage suits sachets, potpourri, or dried arrangements; flowers make excellent cut blooms. Though edible like other lavenders, its piney, antiseptic scent makes it less ideal for culinary uses (better for teas or garnishes sparingly) compared to English varieties—focus on herbal crafts, aromatherapy oils, or visual/ pollinator appeal in landscapes.
