Product Details

Sage 'Honey Melon', also known as *Salvia elegans* 'Honey Melon', is a compact cultivar of pineapple sage prized for its fragrant foliage and vibrant blooms. This tender perennial herb features bright green, ovate leaves that release a delightful sweet honeydew melon scent when crushed, differing from the classic pineapple aroma of the species. Growing to about 1-2 feet tall and spreading wider via underground runners, it produces tubular, bright red flowers earlier in the season than standard varieties, attracting hummingbirds, bees, and pollinators throughout summer and fall in mild climates.

The plant's aromatic leaves and edible flowers make it versatile in culinary and medicinal uses. Fresh leaves add a fruity, melon-like flavor to teas, cocktails, fruit salads, desserts, jellies, or infused beverages for a refreshing twist. Traditionally, the herb supports relaxation, with the species used in teas to ease anxiety or lower blood pressure. Its cheerful scent alone uplifts the mood, while the nectar-rich blooms enhance pollinator gardens, making 'Honey Melon' a low-maintenance favorite for herb beds, containers, or borders in sunny, well-drained spots.
