Product Details

Sesame (Sesamum indicum) is an ancient annual herb from the Pedaliaceae family, native to India and parts of Africa. It features upright stems with lance-shaped leaves and tubular, bell-shaped flowers in white, pink, or purple. The plant produces distinctive capsules that split open to reveal small, flat seeds, which are the primary harvest. Sesame thrives in hot, dry conditions and is remarkably drought-tolerant, requiring well-drained soil and full sun.

Typically growing 2–4 feet tall (though some varieties reach up to 6 feet), sesame suits USDA zones 8–11 or warmer, with a long, hot growing season needed for maturity (90–150 days). Its seeds are widely used for oil extraction, as a topping on breads and baked goods, in tahini, and for their nutty flavor in cuisines worldwide, while the plant offers nutritional benefits like high protein and antioxidants.
