Product Details

Thyme 'Creeping Red', also known as Red Creeping Thyme (Thymus praecox 'Coccineus' or Thymus serpyllum 'Coccineus'), is a low-growing, mat-forming perennial herb in the mint family. It features tiny, aromatic dark green leaves and produces vibrant magenta-red to crimson flowers in early to midsummer, creating a stunning carpet-like display. This drought-tolerant evergreen plant thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy, or rocky soils, making it ideal for hot, dry conditions.

It typically grows 2–4 inches tall (up to 6 inches with flowers) and spreads 8–18 inches or more, tolerating light foot traffic. Hardy in USDA zones 4–9 (or 5–10 in some sources), it's perfect as a groundcover between stepping stones, in rock gardens, as a lawn alternative, or for erosion control on slopes. The fragrant foliage attracts pollinators while resisting deer and drought.
