Product Details

Lemon thyme (Thymus citriodorus), also known as 'Lemon' thyme, is a compact, evergreen perennial herb in the mint family with a delightful citrusy aroma and flavor. It features small, narrow green leaves that release a strong lemon scent when crushed, along with tiny tubular pink or lilac flowers in summer that attract pollinators. This low-growing plant forms a dense, mounding or spreading mat, typically reaching 6-12 inches in height and spreading 12-18 inches wide, making it ideal for borders, rock gardens, or ground cover.

Hardy in USDA zones 5-9, lemon thyme thrives in full sun and well-drained, sandy or rocky soils, tolerating drought, heat, and poor conditions once established. Its fresh or dried leaves add a bright lemon twist to culinary dishes like fish, poultry, salads, teas, herb butters, and marinades, often substituting for lemon zest or juice, while its fragrance enhances ornamental gardens and herbal uses.
