Product Details

The Aji Charapita pepper, scientifically known as *Capsicum chinense*, is a small, bushy plant native to the Amazon rainforest regions of northern Peru. It produces hundreds of tiny, pea-sized fruits, typically about ¼ to ½ inch (0.5–1 cm) in diameter, that ripen from green to vibrant yellow or orange. This wild variety thrives in tropical, humid conditions and is often grown as a houseplant in Peru due to its compact size and prolific yield.

With a moderate spice level of 30,000–50,000 Scoville Heat Units, comparable to a cayenne pepper, the Aji Charapita offers a bright, fruity, and citrusy flavor with a slow-building heat. It is prized as a fresh finishing spice for rice, fish, chicken, salsas, and sauces, adding a tropical touch without overpowering dishes. Its rarity and labor-intensive harvest also make it one of the more expensive peppers by weight.
